Day 141

Williamstown Motel is a pretty old place but it’s everything a hiker needs and was very clean. The owner, Rocky, was just awesome and very caring. I’m so thankful to him for even giving me a ride back to trail so I didn’t have to walk that road again in the heat. It was a long upward climb out of town and back into the mountains but I then got to celebrate two different milestones. First, I hit the 1,600 mile mark and then .8 miles after that, I crossed into Vermont. It’s been really dry lately so I haven’t experienced the “Vermud” yet. I’ve seen places where you can tell it can become deep mud but I was able to walk right over it cleanly as it’s pretty packed and thick. Today was just a nice leisurely hike enjoying the flora and fauna, interesting trees and watching beavers swim around. The water up here is pretty tannic so even filtered, the water is still yellowish in color but tastes fine actually. Put a flavored electrolyte mix in and forget that the water was brownish. I am planning another short 14-ish mile day tomorrow as I want to stop at a mountain top by a fire tower where there’s lots of camping spots. I hear you can see a great sunset and sunrise, as long as it’s not cloudy. I’m getting some rain tonight on my tent but hopefully it’s not supposed to rain tomorrow night. Otherwise, I’ll have to stop shorter at the shelter as I hear the tent sites by the fire tower can flood if it gets rain. Let’s hope for no rain tomorrow night because I’d like clear skies and get some good views and good pics.
