Day 19

3/25/21 Packed up early from camping at the Fontana Dam Shelter and then it started to rain. Hiked 1.7 miles over the dam into Great Smoky Mountain National Park with trail family including Elizabeth now named Rebound, Two-Fer and Squash. Hard saying goodbye to my friends as I head back to await Michele’s arrival in 2 days to pick up Piper as she isn’t allowed in the Smokies. They all love Piper and she is their “support animal”. I wanted Piper to hike the entire trail that she is legally allowed. Felt lonely hiking back to Fontana Dam Road where I called for a shuttle to drive me to the Fontana Village where I have a place. Went to the Pitstop Gas station to resupply. Heard from Rebound that the trail personnel recommended they hike back down as there was a tornado warning and Rebound and Squash did. Others pressed on. Tomorrow will be a zero day and will do laundry(fun).
