Day 43
Robin birds spring to dove spring canyon road - 19.8 miles
Total - 623.1
Last night you could hear the mice throughout the campsite. Apparently gourmet had got the shit end of the stick and left some garnola out and they got into it. The bard heard them crinkle around his tent and I just heard them in the bushes. We orginally planned to do 14ish today as the water sources were bad and we have to rely on two water caches over the course of 20ish miles. We hate dry camping but of course we aka me always change plans. The first 7 miles were perfect as in there was limited elevation and it was mostly flat. We walked through pine needles and trees that created the perfect amount of shade. I walked with Marc during those miles and we talked about college, and funding (thank you parents) which was very pleasant as always with his company. We did 7+ miles in 2 hours and 16 minutes not to flex on you hoes. The first water was the best spring we have had in awhile. Crystal clear and cold and filled a three liter cnoc in a second. Nothing more a girl could ask for. There were also privy’s but they had a MOUNTAIN of poop. One poop away from overfilling which meant that a person had to shit 2 poops away and that’s a dangerous game. We also changed the plans there and decided to dry camp 5.9 miles further from the cache as FarOut said it had a picnic table and good sunset views. We are sluts for a good picnic table and you would be too if you had to make dinner on the ground every night. We lounged for two hours and then started to hit the road. I felt like I was FLYING. Not really but it felt like it. I caught up to the bard and also Jackson who we haven’t seen in awhile. Apparently he has had some stomach issues and plantar fasciitis. We passed him and continued on. We had been joking that we have barely been in the desert. Well we are our words bc now we are in the desert desert. No shade for days. This is the section I think all the PCT vloggers in the past have milked that they had to do midday siestas and find the one Joshua tree to hide under from the sun. We also got a prime start date so idk why I’m being so judge mental. But I am sooooooooo. We got to the water cache and there was no shade so I kept either using Jackson’s sun umbrella or I would hold Marc’s sun umbrella for the both of us. It was only 75 degrees but the sun made it so much worse. There were also red ants everywhere which I kept flicking off. It was a constant unbearable cycle of flicking, sweating, and being miserable. Truly it could’ve been way worse. The wind was going enough that it made it bearable. A couple cars past us and the last one was looking to meet up with their daughter but they were at the wrong one. The bard helped them out and then we asked for beers which they happily gave. Ice cold too. I didn’t want one and only took a sip. Saving myself for lake Isabella for Memorial Day ya know? Around 4 we took off. So much elevation and since we were dry camping I was carrying 4 liters. Sweaty as hell. I was behind but caught up to gourmet and we chatted into camp where we met the 9 year old little girls group. She of course growled at us and talked us up a bit while we made dinner and we ate. After dinner I went to go take a shit and the dad and the little girl (trail name mountain lion ( she named herself and I almost cooked her for it)) ended up coming down and seeing my white ass. I couldn’t care less tho as I’m expecting to see a lot more ass out here. I decided to cowboy tonight as it is a bit windy. Still some bugs but not too bad. I just don’t want to deal with the tent. Tomorrow is a big day but I’m looking forward to lake Isabella. I just want to be done with the desert. We are so close that it’s taunting us at this point but I don’t want to get there too early and wait a week. So zeroing in lake Isabella makes the most sense.
