June 10, 2024 - Day 24
We woke up on the ridge line of Mount Williamson to the sun poking up from the east. It was a bit of a windy night so we didn’t sleep the best but got enough Z’s in to start a productive day.
Our initial goal was to get to mile marker 412 - a 23 mile day. We had made it to the summit of the highest remaining peak so we began our descent down. We crossed over highway 2 multiple times until we reached a sign leading back on trail that noted the following section was closed due to an endangered species habitat for frogs. That meant we had some additional mileage along highway 2.
It ended up being a nice change of pace as we passed by some abandoned ski resorts and some additional operational ones. We climbed up to an abandoned lift at one point and sat in some ski lift chairs as we ate some snacks and drank our water.
After getting back on trail, we kept descending down further and further. The temperature was rising and we reached a spot called Camp Glenwood. We stopped for a nap and then kept pushing to our next water source.
After realizing we could hike an additional 3 miles to save us some mileage tomorrow, we all agreed and went on our way to mile 415. It’s crazy to have already hiked over 400 miles. I’m thankful for every mile my body has taken me this far.
Rught now, we’re tented up on a ridgeline after our first scorpion siting. With the LA suburbs off in the distance, we’re beginning to realize our next challenge - the LA Aqueduct. This is a 35 mile exposed section of trail in one of the hottest parts of the desert section. It runs along he aqueduct.
Until then, we’re cooler and higher up in the mountains.
Happy trails…
