Day 62
So the day started with a touch of excitement. I was coming out of the restroom at the alpaca farm when I noticed a bunch of alpacas running down the driveway and was thinking, uh, they’re not supposed to be there. Taps came walking out and the owner of the place came up with a rope in his hands asking us to help him out. What happened was he went to feed the chickens and forgot to close the gate where the male alpacas were. They took off down the driveway and stopped at the field where the female alpacas were. Luckily they couldn’t get in to that field or there would have been a lot more action going on. LOL! So first thing in the morning, me and Taps are helping the owner corral male alpacas and herd them back to a different pen. After a road walk through an underpass, I walked along a beautiful section with the mist still rising and then I was surprised with something I wasn’t expecting; the 1/4 GA - ME sign. I am now over a quarter of the way done. That’s just an amazing thing to me. The rest of the day was rewarded with walks through cow pastures with just amazing views. I love the old posts with the white blaze in the fields that I have tons of pictures of them now. I stopped at Knot Maul Branch Shelter and just love the mini picnic table at the tenting area. Taps was already there setting up his tent and had some surprises; he had morel mushrooms and wild ramps. No, I didn’t harvest them. We made jokes that I’m not to do that. These were real ramps with the bulb root and smelled like onions. We added sliced up ramps and morel mushrooms to ramen. I also added beef jerky to mine. Oh my! That was the best ramen meal on trail I’d ever had. I’m afraid it just spoiled me against all other ramen meals I make on trail. So happy those who know what they’re doing (Taps and Mountain Tuna) harvested these. I’m well fed, in my tent and ready to wake up to rain. Really! Because with it, the temperature is going to drop. I’m ready for a little break from the heat and remember what a 34 degree low feels like again. (Could I have a day in the middle of those extremes please? LOL)
