Day 1 logged in the trail journal! After orientation at Base Camp we climbed the 600 steps to the top of Amicalola Falls and continued 8.8 miles along the approach trail to head up to Springer Moutain, the official start of the Appalachian Trail. We had a celebratory ThinMint to mark the occasion, the continued on to the shelter. Total of 9 miles in BEAUTIFUL weather-high 50s and blue sky. Had home made freeze dried pork carnitas on HEB tortillas (they are superior to all other tortillas- IYKYK 🤣). First night sleeping in a shelter and amazing stars!! An awesome way to start the trail!
