Day 170

Day 170

Last Call Aug 12th, 2022
Last Call's 2022 AT Thru-Hike

This was a tough day. It was only a 9.6 mile day but with the difficulty of the trail, it took me over 9 hours to do. Early in the day I entered into Maine. The NH side today was just garbage. The AMC needs to do some serious maintenance. There’s barely a single white blaze anywhere. You pass into Maine and, yay, the white blazes are back! The trail once you’re in Maine also is nice and wide with no overgrowth. That’s the good. The bad is that Southern Maine is a very difficult section. Today was some serious rock climbing that even turned into rebar ladders up and down rocks and also lots and LOTS of mud. I almost fell into the mud and unfortunately dunked my right foot into it. I made it to Full Goose Shelter at mile 1,917.4. That means I only have 276.9 miles to go!

Oh, I have a BIG day tomorrow. I’ll only be doing just over 5 miles but it might take me all day. It includes the Mahoosuc Notch and the Mahoosuc Arm. The notch is known as the hardest/funnest mile as it’s a full mile of boulders that will have you going over, under, around and sometimes through. Think of it like a massive jungle gym for hikers. LOL! The Arm is the steepest climb of the entire AT with almost straight up rock walls. I’ll be taking my time and try to enjoy the challenge.
