Day 167

Day 167

Last Call Aug 8th, 2022
Last Call's 2022 AT Thru-Hike

While I first was a bit bummed I cut yesterday so short in miles, but I’m SO glad now we stopped and camped just before Mount Hight because that morning view from the summit was incredible! Nothing makes more dramatic clouds than an incoming storm. I wanted to get up there before the sun rose but now I’m happy I waited until it was above those angry clouds. The Sun rays is what made me stop and stare in awe. The rest of the day was good. It was over 13 miles and the worst climb was getting to the top of Mount Mariah. It was a very rocky climb. Not rocky as in a bunch of rocks but the whole ground was solid rock at a sharp angle upwards and slanted. I cannot use trekking poles on that as I don’t have the rubber tips on mine so it was pure leg muscle pushing me up the mountain. I took one nasty tumble where I had to climb up a crack in a rock going straight up and I slid halfway back down. I hit my elbow, which is okay now but the worst was hitting my left hip bone. It’s SO sore now. I’m going to bruise! From the top of Mount Mariah, I got a pic of the Presidential Mountains and used my Peak Finder app to label them. I cannot believe I just climbed over those! It’s amazing to me! Seems like a dream already. On the way down towards Route 2 we met Tina doing a day hike. She was so sweet. We hiked down from Mount Mariah with her and I was telling her we were going to a hotel for the next two nights while a thunderstorm rolled through and we just needed to call for a shuttle driver when she then offered to drive us to the hotel. Yay! Looks like I hitched a ride yet again without having to stick out my thumb. We got to the hotel and immediately went out for BBQ. (So good! I’m so happy!) On the way back, I grabbed a pre-mixed bottle of Knob Creek Old Fashioned and some sodas and then got laundry done. It’s now pouring rain so I’m so happy I’m in a hotel room ready to relax tomorrow with drinks and a soft bed to lay around in and relax. After doing the White Mountains, I deserve it.
