Zoe Greenhouse's 2020 CT Thru-Hike

My foot started really hurting in the middle of the night and I had to get up at one point too and it really hurt to walk on. I was scared that I was gonna have to wait it out when I was only 20 miles from finishing but after about 15 minutes of waking on it the pain went away. I descended for a while on rock scree and then began my last climb of the entire trail. I also ran into a group that I’d seen right before Jefferson and that was like 400 miles ago so I was very proud of myself for catching back up to them. The climb wasn’t easy but it definitely wasn’t the hardest one I’d done and then I got to the top and had no more climbing to do. Just a ton of descending. And as I descended it started getting hotter and hotter and I was boiling. I also couldn’t imagine going the opposite way on my first day. 5,000 feet of uphill? Brutal. So I kept hiking and I had to dilly dally a little bit because my mom wasn’t there yet and I wanted her to be when I walked out and then I walked out and IM DONE!!! I can’t believe I did it. 500 miles. I’m a thru hiker now!
