Want to document and share your hike with friends and family?
I woke around 5:30am today. I felt well rested but a bit groggy. We had a long climb today and I wanted to get it done early. I sat 3 miles in and drank water and prepared for the 7 mile climb ahead. Everyone had started before bed except Arugula. I started up the climb and pushed very fast. Within an hour I had passed everyone except Little Bag since she started a while before me. I did see her at the top. It’s always fun for me to try to be the first to the top.
I had service at the top and called Robin. I saw messages coming in from my cousins and I saw Brody’s obituary. It was hard to read. This is the kind of experience where I don’t need to think about him until I think about him. It hit me hard after reading that and I went on alone and hiked to the road by myself. I cried for almost 2 hours. It was hard but I knew it was healthy.
I got to the road and by some miracle I had a hitch the moment I came out of the woods from the first car. This man told me about a new fire that started today. It was near the trail.
Quincy was a cool town and our suite was amazing. Little Bag, Orange Slice, and Arugula showed up a few hours later. We got dinner with the rest of the group and then came back. Arugula and I went to the wine bar and talked for a couple hours. She has been thinking she wants to go home so we just talked about it over my first alcoholic beverage on trail. It was a special occasion since I thought it would be the last time we’d be on trail together.
