Day 44

Day 44

Forrest Gump's 2021 PCT Thru-Hike

Today was one of my favorite days yet. We woke late around 6am. There was frost on our tents which was such a contrast from the day before where we had to lay out in shade to wait out the heat. We all made coffee and breakfast for the first time in what seemed like ages. We finally had water to start our day. What a concept. Clockwork, Thin Mint, and Heather all came by to have breakfast with us while we broke down and dried out our things in the sun. The sun was hot but the air was cold. It was easy hiking when we left.

The trail had a small climb up and then a gentle descent back down to the Kern River where there was a bridge filled with swallows living under it. We took a decent break and had a snack and grabbed water. We had a decent climb coming up. Boujee gave me a nuun tablet which apparently had caffeine in it because when I started that climb I didn’t stop for over 5 miles till I hit the water source. The climb was steep but I felt strong and pushed up it. My body felt healthy.

We took another break. It felt so nice to just enjoy the day and take it slow. We only had 9 more to camp for the day. The second bit of the climb was a little more tiring to me though it wasn’t bad. It was long but gentle. Once at the top we could see lots more of the Sierra ahead. There were beautiful large trees and gentle, padded trail to step on. It was wonderful. We took one more break and then pushed down to camp. It felt so nice to be a part of a trail family. I really like everyone in it.

The last few miles wound past large granite rocks and through gorgeous meadows. I was loving it. We got to camp, setup, got water, and then made dinner together. We played the Rose, Bud, Thorn game and enjoyed some laughs. It was a great day today but I know even more beauty is ahead. I’m happy.
