June 1-3 condo in Mammoth Emergency Room visit #2. Steroids!!

We were having trouble securing a ride up to Mammoth once we decided to take a longer break to address Chris’ lingering cough. Rick told the owners of the Williamson Inn and Paul offered to drive us up in the morning. Nice!

Well, worried that Chris’ lingering bronchitis could have transitioned to something more serious, we headed to Mammoth Hospital ER. X-ray and review of blood test results from Tehachapi and the doctor said it could take another month for this to go away, but steroids will help. It’s something. ER Dr a nice guy and a hiker. He understood our frustration and was helpful and informative. Chris has taken 3 of the 5 prednisone doses and already feels better.

Rick spoke with his mom, Gram, who suggested Allegra-24. Armed with Allegra and steroids, Chris is ready to get back on the trail. Rick says if the Allegra-24 works then he expects The Gram to hike the PCT next year!

Two days of binge watching ‘Hoarders’ while Chris rests (again). We had never seen the show, but perhaps the ‘stuff’ lured us in because we can carry so little ‘stuff’ in our packs. Who knows, but it kept us both entertained. Other than that, Rick has been asking to try Axe Throwing here in town. They have parties and corporate events!! Those could get interesting. Maybe next time we’re in town.

Chris also decided she wanted a new pack (Hyperlite) and called the manufacturer who informed her about the 6 week lead time. Yikes. Not good. We visited the Mountaineering store in town and they had the exact pack she wanted in her size (last one). Jackpot! She had also ordered shoes another half size larger, but they were returned to sender and not delivered to Mammoth. Not a great post office for general deliveries here, we have learned. The Mountaineering store also had the exact shoe in her size. Truly amazing.

She’s ready to go!
