Day 47-48

Day 47-48

Chris-and-Rick May 30th, 2021
Chris-and-Rick's 2021 PCT Thru-Hike

May 30-31 Mt. Williamson Inn independence, CA resupply!

Fantastic Inn! Caretaking, attention and great breakfasts. Rick was thrilled when he found an ice cream shop with homemade ice cream. Needless to say, he spent a lot of time there.

We had breakfasts with Clydesdale and several others. He is something else - grew up in Truckee, waterpolo player in college, fireman, retired young, and lived on Kauai for several years. Chris said he should run for office - very charismatic. We ran into him several times during our 2-day stay in Independence. Nice guy - hope we see him up the trail.

This town has a beautiful old courthouse building and even more impressive picnic grounds behind it with huge Giant Sequoias, Cedar of Lebanon and Incense Cedars. Rick had ice cream there with Clydesdale who entertained him with some great stories including a run-in with an 8’ great white while surfing in Tomales Bay a couple of months ago.

The picture above was taken in the park behind the courthouse with Paul, who together with Lauralyn run the Mt Williamson Inn. Very, very nice people.

Trail name: Rick (Tentpole) - our tent is one of a kind on this hike and many hikers have asked for tours. During the tour, Rick explains that he straps his two hiking poles together to exactly 6’3” (his height) and it’s what is placed in the center of the circus tent. He sometimes gives demonstrations standing next to the tentpole to illustrate the height. Clydesdale suggested name - Chris agreed.

Trail name: Chris (Quail) - she has Kyla Roessler’s beautiful drawing of a quail of the back of her phone. Many people have asked about it and recently suggested Chris is like a mama quail care and concern for young hikers.

Much better than Spay and Neuter...
