Want to document and share your hike with friends and family?
5/12/21 A cold night I lay next to Piper she helps try and keep me warm. Actually snowed at Docs Knob Shelter at an elevation of 3,540 feet around 9:00 AM. It lasted about 45 minutes above freezing temperatures but still snow mid May in Southwest Virginia. Later turned out to be a beautiful day. Lots of wildflowers including many colors of trilliums. Walked on the ridge then down to a road in Pearisburg where I had reservations for a bunk. Owner picked us up. It was lovely only bottom bunks open due to COVID. 3 dogs who are hiking the AT with a couple from Alabama part husky and Shepard and a resident pit bull (friendly) were all running around having fun. The dogs from Alabama will be leaving trail soon too much work for them and they themselves want to complete the hike. People who live on the property cooked all of us guests a as great meal. What a treat!! Back on trail tomorrow.
