Day 4

Day 4

Thin Mint May 11th, 2021
Thin Mint's 2021 PCT Thru-Hike

I got up at 6:00 am and had to decide what to do. Option 1 zero stay "in town" (a lodge, campsite, grocery, and tavern . Option 2 press on in the rain. Option 1 would be costly as I'd want a room to split at 128 a night, buy micrleave meals or trail food to eat as the restaurant is not open today and no where to hang out til check in. Option 2 I have a wind jacket and a useless umbrella in the wind with expected all day rain, 20+ mile per hr winds, and poor water options. I weigh the pros and cons and hope that 35 % chance of rain leans towards no rain... Big mistake and huge regret. The rain is endless all day and the winds are well over 20 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph. The temps were in the 40s. And my water resistant jacket wetted out within the first hour. Luckily I had a warm fleece and just kept moving the whole time. After 13 miles at 2:30pm I was done. I called it a day and put up my tent at the next flat spot I found with little wind. I took off all my wet stuff and it took over an hour to stop shivering. The rest of the afternoon I let myself drain my phone playing games and listening to podcasts. Passed the 50 mile mark. 2nd worst day on trail ever.
