5/4/21 Fairly good night in the Chatfield shelter lots of people crammed in. Went by the Lindamood School an old one room school house. Went inside some trail magic. There was a dunce cap and I put it on Piper which wasn’t right should have put it on me and taken a selfie. Hiking was easy got to gas station got some water for Piper and a slice of Pizza which was good. Then went under Interstate 81. Threatening clouds and thunderstorm came in and it rained for a few hours.Went thru several fields with some cows that Piper barked at. Cows stared at us. Skies cleared but no rainbow. Lots of different plants and flowers. Hiked 19.3 miles the most Piper has ever hiked and she had no problems. Got to the Knot Maui Branch Shelter in the dark.Young hiker from NYC was reading in front of shelter everyone else asleep. Set up tent in the dark. Piper barked at something I’m sure woke everyone up. It was 9:30 PM. Got her in the tent to prevent her from barking again. Beautiful farms and fields. Last part of hike was the most difficult by going up hill. Recently met a lot of young hikers well educated and very nice and they give me hope for the future. Passed a sign that said 1/4 done. Seems like it should be more.
