5:30a. On the train to Lordsburg, somewhere in Arizona, and have gotten my first view of desert skies. Excitement setting in! It’s been 8 mos or so since finishing the PCT, and wow! Ive already forgotten what it feels like to fall into the outside. And I’m still in the train! My 3 inch train mattress that I mostly failed to sleep on has only upped my excitement, since it reminds me I’m soon to be reacquainted with my 1/2 foam mattress. Yum! More later.
8:45p. Funny, I figured that with my late start (or what I thought of as a late start since I’d originally planned on being this hike at the beginning of April), well I’d imagined myself hiking alone through the swelteringly hot NM desert, melting slowly as I tortured myself thinking of all those who’d started weeks before me and who (in my mind) would currently be enjoying the balmy breezes of higher climes. Turns out I figured wrong. It’s been awesomely social. Due to my introvertish nature, all this cameraderie has made me a bit tired :). So it’s g’nite at hiker midnight. Off to the races tomorrow AM
Congrats on the start and that’s so awesome you’ve got people around you! Excited to follow along with your hike!
